Isla’s Story

Isla is a nine-year-old little girl who loved to draw, do karate and gymnastics. She loved looking for bugs and always wanted to help save the bees.

In August 2018 Isla was in a horrific life changing 70mph road traffic accident straight into a tree. Isla suffered severe injuries including a broken chest, chipped hip, fractured foot, fractured sternum, open laceration on her hip which required three surgeries and multiple cuts and bruises. Through it all Isla never complained and has taken everything in her stride and incredibly teaching herself how to learn to walk again after being wheelchair bound.

Isla’s VIP Experience

Isla and her mum Abigail were invited to enjoy a VIP experience at Anfield on 4th February 2020 to watch the game between Liverpool FC and Shrewsbury Town. Isla’s mum Abigail had first heard about Box4Kids when Isla’s nurse at Alder Hey Hospital had told them all about the Trust and what we do. Isla’s mum then went onto our website to nominate Isla, who is a massive LFC fan, to attend a game.

Isla and her mum were treated to the best views at Anfield stadium from the the comfort and luxury of Barrie’s own executive box situated on the half-way line. In the box they enjoyed delicious food and refreshments and were able to watch the match from the box’s private balcony. Isla said ‘’ I really enjoyed sitting in the posh seats and I loved my goodie bag, especially the LFC teddy bear who now sleeps pride of place under my pillow every night’’. Isla was completely star struck when she got to meet former and retired Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, she was so pleased she got to chat with him and get a photo. Bruce even signed all the children’s LFC programmes which they were able to take home.

Making Memories

Mum Abigail said ‘’Box4Kids has made us realise that there are good people out there. In what was a very trying time for our family, Barrie and his team made us see the light in the world again. You will never know how much you lifted me out of a dark space and how much you lifted Isla’s spirits. We have never been back in that bad space again’’.

Isla got to meet Barrie and his wife Heather who always host the box at Anfield. She often talks about them both, how they made such a fuss over her and the special memories that will last a lifetime. Isla said ‘’ I will always remember my Box4Kids experience and the amazing opportunity’’.

It is due to exceptionally kind donations that we can provide such important and memorable experiences to deserving children. If you know of anyone who has an empty box or if you are a box holder and would like to donate, please get in touch.
