Alongside healthy food and drink brand The Skinny Food Co, Wigan Warriors invited some incredibly deserving children to enjoy a VIP experience at the DW Stadium to watch Wigan Warriors vs Wakefield Trinity.

Thanks to yet another private box donation from Wigan Warriors and healthy food and drink brand The Skinny Food Co, partners of the club since May 2021, this was the third time this season Wigan Warriors have been able to invite a group of young Box4Kids guests to attend the DW Stadium, where they are treated like VIPs for the day. The Box4Kids initiative is part of the Barrie Wells Trust, which provides unique experiences for seriously ill and disabled children. The experiences donated provide a safe and relaxing environment for children who for varying reasons are often unable to attend general seating.

Several children from local hospitals, and their families, were provided a full VIP experience with the Warriors, including a delicious meal alongside watching the match from the VIP lounge. Best of all, the young guests were treated with meeting team captain Liam Farrell – an opportunity they were all absolutely delighted with.

One of the parents has been in touch to say a huge thank you, their child said it was “the best day ever” and the whole family loved the experience. For many Box4Kids families, the idea of going to a stadium can be incredibly overwhelming due to the complex needs of the young person. Being provided with an opportunity to then be able to enjoy a game from the safety of a VIP lounge or executive box takes the stress out of the experience for these families.

Matthew Wells, a trustee at the Barrie Wells Trust, hosted the event. “As a huge Wigan Warriors fan myself I was thrilled to be invited to support my favourite team from the luxury of The Skinny Food Co’s table. Enjoying the game from the VIP lounge and being able to see the joy on the families’ faces as they watched their team win was so amazing. It really makes a difference to these young peoples’ lives to be able to forget about hospitals, treatments and the difficulties daily life can pose to them and be able to enjoy a few carefree hours with their family. The kindness and attentiveness of the hospitality team genuinely made these young people feel like a VIP for the day.”

Quote from Chairman Barrie Wells MBE – “We are so so delighted to have donors like The Skinny Food Co. and Wigan Warriors who offer such phenomenal support to the Trust and enable us to provide such amazing experiences to Box4Kids guests. Thank you again for the incredible opportunity.”
