Meet 15-year-old Conner!
Conner loves XBOX, FIFA and above all Manchester City FC who he has supported since he was 4 years old.
Conner is diagnosed with cystic fibrosis which is a life-limiting condition and causes mucus to clog up his lungs, pancreas and gut. Everyday he has to take up to 50 tablets, endure 5 different nebulisers and physiotherapy exercises. Along with this Conner has IV antibiotics administered every 6 weeks and at times can have to spend long periods in hospital on oxygen. He says, ‘it can take over some days but I know it keeps me well and my mum is here taking care of me’.
Conner and his mum Becky heard about Box4Kids through their nurse Chloe at Hull Royal Infirmary who Conner describes as ‘amazing’! Becky submitted a nomination for Conner to attend a Box4Kids event via the ‘Nominate a Child’ page on our website and was delighted to receive a call from us to offer Conner a VIP experience at the Etihad Stadium to watch his beloved Manchester City!
Conner’s VIP Experience
‘I felt on top of the world’
On Wednesday 19th February 2020, Conner and his mum attended the Manchester City fixture against West Ham. This game had originally been scheduled for earlier in the month but had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Ciara.
Conner and Becky were welcomed into the box by our hosts from the Trust, Jon and Sue Stevenson where they enjoyed a delicious buffet meal (of never-ending food) and plenty of refreshments. Jon and Sue commented on how well all the guests got on, especially the boys who sat together to watch the match from the box’s private balcony.
It was a 2-0 win for Manchester City with a goal per half which made for an exciting action-packed game. Conner said, ‘I have wanted to go to the Etihad Stadium forever, you made my dreams come true as I spend most of my time in hospital so it is impossible to get to Manchester, I felt amazing seeing my team win and the food and company were amazing. I felt on top of the world.’
The hospitality team at Manchester City are fantastic and go to great lengths to ensure all our guests have the best VIP experience possible.
Becky also wrote to us following the game to say, ‘my son has been a lifelong Man City fan and you made his day, it was the first time he was able to see the Etihad Stadium. Thank you so much, the food was amazing, Jon and Sue are so lovely and they made us feel so welcome. Thank you for making my son’s dreams come true.’
It is always so lovely to hear how much Box4Kids events mean to children and their parents. With the support from our very generous box holders, like Bridgepoint who donated this particular box, we are able to provide such special and important memories to children like Conner. If you have an executive box and would like to donate it to our Box4Kids initiative, please do get in touch.
