Barrie Wells Trust Heroes

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we launched a new initiative called the Barrie Wells Trust Heroes.

Children who had attended a Box4Kids event were asked to nominate their Barrie Wells Trust Hero from a hospital or hospice. This could be someone who showed them exceptional kindness or made them feel especially at ease throughout their time in hospital, such as a doctor, nurse or other medical staff.

As part of their nomination children provided a drawing or a letter, which was sent to their Hero in a gift package provided by the Trust which included a delicious hamper of treats and a Barrie Wells Trust certificate to recognise their award.

Here is what some of the very special Heroes had to say about their nomination:

‘Thank you for passing on the delightful nomination from Mark and his family, I can’t tell you how much of a lift this has given me and how grateful I am for the box which arrived today. What a treat to share with my colleagues in the office!’ – Dr Gavin Cleary, Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist – Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

‘We received the wonderful hamper from Barrie Wells Trust that Ayden had very kindly nominated us for at the beginning of the week. Thank you so very much, it is a really lovely gesture and a much-needed pick me up for the staff.’ – Amie Mills, Healthcare Play Speciality – UHCW

‘A very huge thanks for the wonderful surprise on my return from leave. How lovely and what kind words from Phoebe. We are of course the lucky ones working with these inspirational children ever single day!! Can I take the opportunity to say thank you for all you do for the children, Box4Kids events are such a positive at the darkest of times.’ – Lisa Beaumont, Therapeutic & Specialised Play Manager – Leeds Children’s Hospital
