Meet 12-year-old Liam!
Liam absolutely loves football and supports Leicester City and likes to watch Coventry City. Liam also enjoys playing football for Aston Villa’s disabled team.
In 2015, Liam was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma, which is a type of brain tumour. Liam also has structural focal epilepsy which is caused by damage of the brain structure. In May 2015 Liam underwent lifesaving surgery to debulk the tumour, Doctors were unable to remove the full tumour due to where the tumour was located but they did manage to remove a cyst on the tumour, however, in 2019 the tumour had grown again meaning more surgery to debulk was needed.
Liam has been very lucky to attend two Box4Kids events to watch his favourite sport, football. Liam was first nominated by Sanchia Evans (who is a CLIC Sargent social worker at Birmingham Children’s Hospital) to watch Leicester City vs. Watford in 2017. More recently in 2019 Liam was invited back to watch a Coventry City FC match.
Liam’s VIP Experience
On 26th January 2019 Liam, stepdad Scott, cousin Connor and auntie Nadene (who is a big Coventry City fan) were all invited to watch Coventry City vs Blackpool at Coventry City’s previous stadium, The Ricoh Arena. Guests had the best views of all the action from the luxury of the VIP box and enjoyed delicious food and refreshments throughout the afternoon.
‘I really liked the atmosphere and how well we all got treated by all the hospitality staff’ said Liam. ‘I really enjoyed the whole day as I love watching football. The experience helped me to feel happy, as it was football and it helped me to meet other children with additional needs and illnesses.’
We are so appreciative of the fantastic support from Coventry City who have been donating an executive box to our Box4Kids initiative for every weekend home fixture since the 2018/2019 football season.
Mum Faye added ‘I would like to thank everyone at Box4Kids for making my son feel so special and giving him a fantastic opportunity to watch football from an exclusive executive box.’
Without the continued support of our wonderful box holders, like Coventry City, we would not be able to provide such important and memorable experiences to children like Liam. If you are a box holder and have any events where your box is not being utilised, then please consider donating it to the Trust to help make even more special memories for deserving children.
